Welcome to the official website of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Delta Sigma Theta was founded on January 13, 1913, by 22 young women at Howard University. The Minneapolis/St. Paul Alumnae Chapter was established 53 years later on March 12, 1966, by 16 Deltas who wished to continue the sorority’s philosophy, traditions, and spirit in the Twin Cities.
Since that time, this chapter has made impressive strides in providing community service that align with the National Five-Point program thrust: educational development, economic development, political awareness/involvement, international awareness/involvement and physical/mental health. This was illustrated in 2005 when we received the Midwest Alumnae Chapter of the Year Award at the 42nd Midwest Regional Conference in Columbus, Ohio, for activities which included:
Delta Academy enrichment program for teen girlsAnnual Literary Luncheon featuring best-selling authorsPartnership with Catholic Charities Furniture Warehouse to assist needy familiesDelta Dollars Scholars that raised over $50,000 to endow our scholarshipprogram
Seminars for seniors on HIV/AIDS awarenessVernetta Wilson Memorial Scholarships awarded to African American, HighSchool students
The success of this chapter is driven by the warm, sisterly bond that we intend to keep strong through reclamation and retention activities. So, I invite any Deltas in the area who are interested in taking part in the chapter to join us!
For visitors, it is our hope that our website will increase your knowledge of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Minneapolis/St. Paul Alumnae Chapter. Thank you for your interest!
Sincerely,
Kimberly Ballentine
