President's Message
1966 - 2011
Celebrating 45 years of serving
the Twin Cities community
Greetings, and Welcome to the Website of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Alumnae Chapter of Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Thank you for taking the time to view our website and learn
more about the chapter and its efforts to positively impact the lives of those in the communities
in which we serve. Since its chartering in 1966, this chapter has committed itself to contributing
to the betterment of the Twin Cities metro area through various service programs and events.
Over 300 Deltas reside in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area. Each year, members volunteer at
various organizations that are dedicated to uplifting and helping those in need, including Feed
My Starving Children, and Bridging Inc. The chapter also conducts programs to foster positive
growth in youth through the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy (for junior high school girls),
the Dr. Jeanne L. Noble Delta GEMS institute (for high school girls), and starting this year
the EMBODI program (for boys between the ages of 13-17). In addition, the Minneapolis/
St. Paul Alumnae Chapter in conjunction with the Archie Givens Foundation will sponsor our
annual Literary Luncheon, which features the works of an African-American author, and salutes
our annual scholarships recipients.
Consistent with our national theme: Transforming Lives, Impacting Communities one of our
goals this year is to increase our presence in the community and to make a greater impact
through the following service activities:
- Voter Registration drives
- Social Action Seminars
- Health awareness seminars
- Scholarship workshops with the St. Paul-Minneapolis Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated
Again we thank you for visiting our website, and hope you enjoy it! Please check back often to
learn more about our future programs and events.
Sincerely,
Niceta L. Thomas
2011-2012 President
